About Concrete Yard Planner

At Concrete Yard Planner, our goal is to make concrete project planning easier to understand. Whether you’re estimating a backyard patio, planning a driveway, or figuring out how many bags of concrete to buy, our free online tools help you turn measurements into practical material estimates.

We created this website for DIY homeowners, property owners, and small contractors who want straightforward calculations and plain-English explanations before starting a project. Our main concrete calculator, project-specific tools, and guides are available without creating an account.

What You Can Find on Concrete Yard Planner

Our resources focus on three parts of planning a concrete project: calculating quantities, understanding the assumptions behind an estimate, and preparing for the work involved.

Free Concrete Calculators

  • Concrete Slab Calculator: Estimate cubic feet, cubic yards, and bag quantities for patios, walkways, driveways, and other rectangular slabs.
  • Concrete Bag Calculator: Convert a known concrete volume into approximate quantities of 40 lb, 60 lb, and 80 lb bags.
  • Concrete Footing Calculator: Estimate concrete volume for rectangular footings and multiple identical supports.

You can find the available tools in our calculator directory.

Project-Specific Estimates

Our project pages provide worked estimates for common slab sizes, bag-conversion scenarios, and footing dimensions. These pages are starting points, not substitutes for checking the measurements of your actual project.

Practical Concrete Guides

Our concrete guides explain topics such as measuring a slab, estimating bag quantities, comparing bagged concrete with ready-mix delivery, preparing a gravel base, and understanding concrete curing. For example, our guide to calculating concrete bags walks through the assumptions behind a bag estimate.

How Our Concrete Estimates Work

Our calculators use basic geometry and volume conversions. For a rectangular pour, the starting point is:

Volume (cubic feet) = Length (feet) × Width (feet) × Thickness (feet)

To convert cubic feet into cubic yards, divide the result by 27. When the thickness is entered in inches, it must first be divided by 12 to convert it into feet.

Where applicable, our tools also let you account for extra material by applying a waste allowance. Bag estimates depend on the assumed yield of each bag size; actual yields differ between manufacturers and concrete mixes. Always check the product label or supplier specifications before purchasing materials.

We explain these calculations in more detail on our concrete calculator and estimation guide.

Our Approach to Useful Content

We aim to make our tools and articles practical, understandable, and transparent about their assumptions. Our approach includes:

  • Clear units: Presenting estimates in familiar U.S. units, including feet, inches, cubic feet, cubic yards, and concrete bag sizes.
  • Explained calculations: Showing the basic formulas and examples behind the estimates wherever helpful.
  • Real-world considerations: Highlighting factors such as waste, uneven ground, product yield, and supplier requirements that can affect the final quantity.
  • Accessible tools: Keeping our public calculators free to use without requiring a login.
  • Practical limitations: Reminding readers when site conditions, local building requirements, or professional advice may change a planning decision.

If you notice an incorrect calculation, a broken link, or an explanation that needs improvement, we welcome your feedback.

Important Limits of Our Tools

Concrete Yard Planner is an informational website, not a substitute for a site inspection, engineered design, building permit review, or a qualified contractor’s assessment. We do not provide construction services or project-specific engineering approval through this website.

Calculator results are planning estimates only. They cannot determine whether a slab, footing, foundation, or other structure is safe or compliant with local codes. Actual material requirements can vary with excavation conditions, form dimensions, reinforcement, product specifications, and construction methods.

For load-bearing or safety-critical work, consult a licensed engineer or appropriately qualified construction professional. Verify dimensions on-site and confirm your order with the supplier before pouring.

Who Maintains This Website?

Concrete Yard Planner is maintained by Jose Climax. The website focuses on accessible planning tools and educational information for people researching concrete projects, primarily using U.S. measurements and common bag sizes.
