Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are these concrete calculators?

Our calculators use standard industry formulas and include a waste factor to account for spillage and over-excavation. Results are accurate for planning and ordering purposes. Always double-check your measurements and consult product labels for actual yields, as concrete mixes can vary by manufacturer.

What’s the difference between cubic yards and cubic feet?

Cubic yards and cubic feet both measure volume. One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet. Ready-mix concrete is typically sold by the cubic yard, while bagged concrete is measured in cubic feet per bag. Our calculators show both units so you can order whichever format works best for your project.

Why do I need a waste factor?

Real-world conditions rarely match perfect calculations. Ground may be uneven, forms may bow slightly, and some concrete spills during mixing and pouring. A five to ten percent waste factor ensures you have enough material to complete your project without running short mid-pour.

When should I use bags instead of ready-mix?

Use bagged concrete for projects under one to two cubic yards, repairs, or locations where a truck can’t access. Switch to ready-mix delivery for projects over two yards—it’s more economical and saves enormous labor. Ready-mix is also better for continuous pours like driveways and large slabs.

Do I need to create an account to use the calculators?

No account required. All calculators are completely free and work directly in your browser. No signup, no email, no tracking. Just enter your dimensions and get instant results.

Can I use these calculators for commercial projects?

Our tools are designed for residential DIY and light commercial work. For large commercial projects, structural applications, or anything requiring engineered specifications, always consult a licensed engineer or concrete contractor. Our calculators provide estimates, not certified engineering calculations.
